As anyone who has seen A Man and a Woman will know, the story of the 1966 film almost takes a second seat to its mesmerizing cinematography. Shot by Claude Lelouch, its final credits are run alongside poignant footage of the Deauville Planches boardwalk and the expansive seaside. At once moody, haunting and serene, it perfectly captures the peace and awe of an ocean breeze in winter.

Deauville, a coastal town in France’s Normandy region, is where Gabrielle Chanel decided to open her second boutique in 1913, where she introduced luxurious casual clothing suitable for leisure and sport—arguably paving the way for her Cruise collections in 1919. It has since held a special place in the history of Chanel, and now, it stars as the backdrop of the Fall/Winter 2024 ready-to-wear show teaser.

Directed by Inez & Vinoodh, the clip features the ambiguous profile of model Vivienne Rohner, superimposed over the placid scenography in an upturned wide-brim sun hat, chiffon scarf and a tweed coat. Playing on transparency to the tune of Fleetwood Mac’s haunting instrumental, ‘Albatross’, the result is a wistful teaser to the upcoming collection reveal, which will presumably have its influences in Lelouch’s captivating work. Chanel’s founder was a longtime film enthusiast, and the house has continued this connection throughout the decades.

Ahead of the show in Paris, set to take place on Tuesday, March 5th at 2 pm (8am New York time), get lost in the teaser clip, or stay tuned for the live stream below.
