Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren – the imitable duo behind Viktor & Rolf – have a knack for creating pieces that feel larger than life, and this season’s Fall/Winter 20/21 collection was certainly no different. Even now, in the face of a global health pandemic, the pair dug deep creatively, dreaming up a series of looks that more or less reflected the times – a silken nightdress (because fancy pajamas are now a form of sartorial currency), romantic duvet-inspired dresses (with love-heart shaped pockets, no less), and a playful pink coat that occupies so much space, it would be impossible to not adhere to social distancing measures while wearing.
There were glitter trims and winking emojis – all adding a little humor back into what is, to be quite blunt, a pretty dark time for the fashion industry.

And then there were the beauty details – so bright and beautiful it was a statement all on its own. Swirls of rich pink blush spilled across cheekbones, melting into sunset shades of burnt orange and magenta on the eyes. It was like watercolors had been brushed onto each model’s complexion, while excess pigment had found a home on the lips – a dreamy, washed-out fuchsia that felt subdued but striking, much like the imaginative collection itself.
In essence, it was a love letter to the wonder and magic that is couture week. This time around has been different – special, notable, but different. But that didn’t stop Viktor & Rolf spreading light and love.
