Fashion designer Feng Chen Wang is famed for her love of technical deconstruction; her ability to dream up sustainable, unisex designs that are conceptual, personal, and visually arresting. The London-based artist uniquely defines her aesthetic as “future-modern,” which is also the perfect wording to represent her collaboration with Southern California-based global lifestyle brand UGG. Together, they unveiled the  UGG x Feng Chen Wang Sandal, a design that works for all seasons thanks to its three-in-one functionality.

After three years of hard work conceptualizing, designing, and executing the product, the genderless silhouette launched on Thursday, April 15. Both the brand and designer unveiled a campaign in line with the shoe’s launch that explores the contradiction of warmth vs. cold. “[This concept] is really about crossing gender boundaries and seasonal boundaries,” Wang tells GRAZIA. “It’s an expression of versatility and expresses our iconic elements, which are brought to life with the technical deconstruction of the shoe itself.”

The Feng Chen Wang Sandal is a reinterpretation of the UGG Classic Boot, a brand bestseller. Wang put a year’s worth of work into developing the shoe, which deconstructs into three pieces that can be worn separately in the warm weather or together in the cold. “I brought in the idea of technical deconstruction of the elements, which involved adding removable boot liner, removable insole, and a microfiber sock line,” Wang explains. “This allows it to be carried from season to season.”

As is the case with every great collaboration, Feng Chen Wang x UGG was all about, as the designer puts it, “merging their key styles.” In the UGG brand’s case, she tells us that meant the use of “khaki, softness, and the shape of the boots.” She fused the famed American company’s signature shoe with her “deconstructed design, modern concept, and sports-like feel.” The result? A versatile shoe we’ll be wearing on the sand this summer and in the snow next winter.
