Do you usually leave your toothbrush out in the open when you’re at a hotel? Big mistake!

According to a former hotel manager, this practice is quite risky. As reported by the media LADbible, Melissa Hanks, who specializes in hotel management, made some surprising revelations on her TikTok account.

Poor Hygiene in Hotels?

In a video shared online on July 14, the young woman explains why you should never leave your toothbrush lying around in a hotel room. She stated: “Also keep your toothbrush in your suitcase, not on your bathroom counter.” According to Hanks, some cleaning staff members, if ill-intentioned, might clean with the help of your toothbrush.

Hanks clarified: “When you stay in a hotel, I’ve heard that housekeepers clean certain areas of the bathrooms that you wouldn’t want near your mouth. Keep your toothbrush put away just to avoid any kind of situation like this.” Not cool, we agree.

Captioning her video, the TikToker, who has almost 80,000 followers, stated: “I have heard of this happening. I personally have never seen it.” She also noted, “Here is why you should not be rude to hotel staff. Consider this your warning.”

A New TikTok Trend

On her TikTok profile, the expert shares numerous tips about the hospitality industry. She posted a video explaining how to behave when in a hotel, so as not to annoy the cleaning staff. She pointed out: “Don’t leave trash everywhere, put used towels behind the toilet for easy pick-up, and leave a tip if you can, it’s always appreciated.” That’s been said!

Among her latest videos shared on TikTok, the former hotel manager also advises never to use ice machines in hotels—a service often offered in the United States. The reason? She notes that these machines never get cleaned and thus, the ice cubes could carry bacteria. Better to avoid that.

Online, more and more hygiene advice videos about hotel life are going viral. It seems to be the new trend on TikTok. Meanwhile, the concept is rather handy, yet somewhat alarming. What do you think?
