If the attendance at the 2023 Academy Museum Gala is to be believed, this non-traditional, albeit conventionally contemporary, dating practice has reached Hollywood, too. That seemingly is the case for Selena Gomez, Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham—or at least, what they want us to believe.
Overnight, the bona fide nepo baby and amateur chef took to social media to share a photo of him with his actress wife and the multi-hyphenated musician, captioning the image of the trio, “Our anniversary”.
In the picture, taken in the hallway of the Beverly Hills Hotel, Beckham can be seen holding Peltz’s waist, while Gomez posed next to him. A similar scene unfolded at the charity gala, too, with Peltz flanked by Beckham and Gomez in matching Valentino ensembles.
Naturally, his caption piqued the interest of netizens, who were quick to call out the meaning behind his apparently romantic post. “Why is Selena just randomly in the first pic on an anniversary post I’m dying,” wrote one user, while another added, “Like a throuple?”
Given that the Peltz Beckhams celebrated their wedding anniversary in April, many questioned the occasion they were celebrating. Particularly, how it involved Gomez. But was this Beckham’s attempt at soft-launching an open relationship?
The former novice photographer and actress tied the knot in an opulent, yet drama-laden, ceremony at the 28-year-old’s family mansion in Florida in 2022.
Come the end of the year, the newlyweds had begun regularly posting about their newfound friendship with the Only Murders In The Building star. The trio rang in 2023 with matching chintzy Valentino mini dresses and matching tattoos.
2023 began with Gomez, Peltz and Beckham canoodling on a yacht, with Gomez captioning a photo of the pair hugging, “Fine calls us a throuple, #foreverplusone”.
Was this anniversary purely platonic? Presumably. But no one has quite denied the rumours either.
While on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Beckham himself said: “[Gomez] says we’re a throuple. She’s a very sweet girl, obviously very talented, and I love when my wife makes new friends, especially really great friends. And you know, we all get along, so yeah!”
