Sai De Silva

You know and love Sai De Silva from her hit blog Scout the City and her ultra-glam (yet refreshingly candid) social media channels. The content creator shares full getting-ready, behind-the-scenes glimpses into her life and the making of her fashion content. From styling outfits through her partnerships with brands like Dior, Fendi and Tom Ford to name a few, to documenting everyday mom duties, the new cast member of The Real Housewives of New York (fittingly) always keeps it real.

During Fashion Month, De Silva’s content goes into overdrive with one fabulous look after another as she attends the shows. This season, she’s been out and about everywhere, hitting the New York Fashion Week circuit before attending Milan and next, Paris. In the middle of it all, she took a minute to chat with GRAZIA USA about how she preps for the never-ending stream of shows and broke down her favorite moments from New York Fashion Week. We caught up with the tastemaker and discovered her most important secret to surviving the month. Find out what it is, below.

Each season begins the same, somewhat frantic, way for De Silva. About a week out she receives invites to shows and that starts the process of figuring out the age-old question: “What should I wear?”

“As soon as I get the invite, I’ll ask for dressing,” De Silva says. “If dressing is unavailable, I have someone on my team who figures out exactly what we want to do clothing-wise. And then once I get an outfit, I figure out hair and makeup. It’s very sporadic to be honest.”

For De Silva, no outfit is complete without glam. “Glam is absolute favorite thing. Glam and fashion just go hand in hand and glam can really make something come together,” she shares. “Sometimes, I just sit in the makeup chair and say, ‘Surprise me.’ I have several different glam teams and some are very, very creative and they’ll have an idea. But it depends. Sometimes I’ll look through Pinterest and see if I can find anything that’s very editorial and then try and put my spin on it. As soon as I get in the chair, I’m usually like, ‘Hey, I was thinking maybe we can do bobby pins today’ and we go from there.”

To survive the entirety of the month, her first must-have tip is to “definitely” get a car. “If you have more than several shows, you need a car. You need to have all of your clothes organized in different garment bags with accessory shoes, etc.” To keep everything extra-organized, she take pictures so it’s clear what’s in each bag. Another underrated tip? “Snacks! Bring snacks,” she shares. “I don’t have time to eat. It keeps me afloat.”

Thanks to her “mobile dressing room,” the ability to take a 20-minute nap between destinations is really clutch too. “No one says anything, but by the end, we’re all feeling that we’re all running on empty.”

Despite the “full production” that goes into making each appearance during fashion month a memorable one, it’s her favorite time of year. “It’s tiring and exhausting, but there’s creativity behind it and at the end of the day, I love to create. Fashion is just my jam, it’s my personality, it’s the ability to wear your personality without having to say anything.”

After attending Altuzarra, Brandon Maxwell, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors and Proenza Schouler during NYFW, she’s already calling a few trends that she’s sure we’ll see for a while. She says gloves are “definitely going to be around for a minute” and she’s currently “obsessed” with ankle-length coats. “I need them in my life.”

While we see what’s in store as De Silva heads over to PFW, we’re looking back at some of her stop-and-stare looks during NYFW.
