Rihanna is on a roll this awards season! Hot on the heels of her very first Golden Globes nomination for best original song in a motion picture, the superstar singer is celebrating yet another milestone.

On Tuesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this year’s nominees, and the Anti artist received a nod for Best Original Song alongside her co-writers Tems, Ludwig Göransson and director Ryan Coogler for her highly celebrated track “Lift Me Up” featured on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever original soundtrack.

The Savage X Fenty founder was nominated alongside Diane Warren’s song “Applause” from Tell It Like a Woman, M.M. Keeravaani and Chandrabose’s “Naatu Naatu” from RRR, Ryan Lott, David Byrne, and Mitski’s “This Is a Life” from Everything, Everywhere All At Once, and Lady Gaga’s track “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick.

The song marked the Grammy-winner’s first new track in six years, and pays homage to the life of actor Chadwick Boseman, who portrayed King T’Challa in the first installment of Black Panther. Boseman passed away in 2020 from colon cancer at the age of 43.

Rihanna isn’t the only first-time nominee this year — actresses Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michelle Yeoh, and Stephanie Hsu received their first Oscar nods, as well as actors Austin Butler, Ke Huy Quan, Paul Mescal, Brendan Fraser, Colin Farrell and more. This year marks Nigerian musician (and Rihanna’s co-writer) Tems’ first consideration as well.

Tems took to Instagram to celebrate the song’s release in October. “Blessed to have written this song in honor of Chadwick Boseman,” she wrote. “And even more blessed to hear the baddest @badgalriri voice it to perfection🕊✨.”

On Feb. 12, Rihanna is set to return to the stage at the 2023 Super Bowl LVII halftime show.

The 2023 Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 12 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. After Rihanna’s very glamorous appearance at the Golden Globes alongside boyfriend A$AP Rocky, we can’t wait to see what the songstress will wear to the 2023 Oscars. Here’s hoping she walks the carpet this time!
