Last week, GRAZIA USA reported that “Barbiecore” is making its resurgence in fashion — again — and it seems like everyone is embracing the bold pink girly aesthetic in their wardrobes. The latest celebrity to catch the bubbly feel-good vibe is Penélope Cruz.
The 48-year-old Chanel ambassador channeled the plastic doll fashion icon on the red carpet at the Tribeca Film Festival Artists Dinner, hosted by Chanel, at New York’s iconic French brassiere Balthazar on Monday. Cruz dazzled in a floor-length silk jacquard Chanel dress in Barbie’s go-to favorite shade. Any proper “Barbiecore” look wouldn’t be completed without matching accessories, and the Vicky Cristina Barcelona actress elevated her look with a matching quilted Chanel vanity case purse and gold hoop earrings and ring also by the brand.
The Tribeca Film Festival Artists Dinner brought together fashion and film luminaries to celebrate 10 emerging artists that have contributed original artwork to the festival’s award-winning filmmakers. The 10 honorees included Deborah Roberts, February Jones, Garry Simmons, Hank Willis Thomas, Leilah Babirye, Ming Smith, Nicoletta Darita de la Brown, Nina Chanel Abney, Quattara Watts, and Wardell Milan.
This isn’t the first time the actress stepped on the red carpet embodying a life-size Chanel barbie. Back in March, Cruz attended the annual Nominees Luncheon ahead of the 2022 Oscars, (she was nominated for Best Actress for her performance in Parallel Mothers). Once again, she showed off her affinity for the fun, energetic color by wearing a hot-pink dress — this time a mini from Chanel’s Spring-Summer 2022 collection. Continuing the Barbie-esque look, she matched her nails with her ensemble painting them a bubblegum pink.
