In case you missed it, Kim Kardashian is touring Italy on a dream European visit following the divorce from ex-husband, Kanye West. After she was spotted at the Colosseum in Rome, the reality star joined model Kate Moss on a tour of Vatican City. On social media Kardashian shared a series of images from the day.
“We had the most incredible experience touring Vatican City @vaticanmuseums,” Kardashian wrote on Instagram. “It was amazing to be able to view all of the iconic art, architecture and ancient Roman sculptures in person, especially Michelangelo’s works. We even had an opportunity to view their private archive of robes worn by every pope in history, dating back to the 1500’s. Thank you @ocspecial for arranging the visit.”
Posing in front of artwork and within the walls of St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, Kardashian turned heads with a sheer, lace dress with cut outs. She assured her followers she covered up in accordance with the dress code.
“Don’t worry, I adhered to the dress code and fully covered up while inside St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel’s,” she added.
The dress wasn’t a mere fashion statement either and was worn with special meaning attached to the design. The lace ensemble was pulled from Victor Barragán’s Fall 2020 runway collection. Inspired by the designer’s Mexican heritage, the collection and consequently its designs are rooted in the persecution of brujas and brujos by the Catholic church.
“The collection is about sexuality as power and protection from widespread patriarchal domination as used in brujería in the 16th century, which may still resonate today,” Barragán told Vogue at the time. “There’s a sense of female empowerment throughout the collection, mixed with nocturnal enchantment.”
The last image in the rolodex of tourist snaps revealed Moss and Kardashian were accompanied by a number of friends including Moss’ daughter, Lila Moss.
