Olivia Rodrigo took her love for all things Y2K to the next level at the 2022 Met Gala red carpet. Evoking an ethereal, shimmering fairytale, the young pop star’s playful custom butterfly hair clips from leading luxury headpiece designer Jennifer Behr and legendary fashion designer Betsey Johnson stole the show.

Fusing their talents once again, Behr and Johnson are reimagining the whimsical accessories inspired by Rodrigo’s Met Gala appearance with a limited-edition butterfly capsule collection — and it’s available to shop now.

The line features the “Gala Butterfly” clip with Swarovski crystal accents and the “Gabby Bobby Pin” with a hand-painted lilac butterfly on a silver bobby pin, which both mimic the same hair clips Rodrigo rocked on the Met Gala carpet. (If you’re looking for some outfit inspo for your new accessories, Rodrigo kept her look color coordinated that night in a lavender Versace high-shine chainmail gown with purple platforms, matching sheer opera gloves, De Beers jewels.)

The capsule collection is a perfect marriage between the brands. The butterfly has roots in Betsey Johnson’s Spring/Summer 1997 runway show, where teal and pink butterfly headpieces made their way down the catwalk. Behr has also been drawn to the butterfly design and has continued to carry the silhouette of her best-selling Papillion earrings in other collections and offerings.

“Since I started designing, butterflies have always been a source of inspiration,” Behr said in a statement. “We love to reimagine the silhouette and have created an endless assortment of butterfly clips, earrings and headbands over the years. That’s what made this project so special. Butterflies represent renewal and this was the perfect opportunity to bring such an iconic shape to life in a new way. When I saw Betsey’s runway inspiration, I knew that we could create pieces that would perfectly embody both of our brands.”

Johnson, the beloved designer who encapsulated many ’90s trends in her collections, added, “I’ve always loved embracing the embellished and over the top, and this capsule does just that. These butterfly styles have such a special place in my heart. Bringing these pieces back to life from my past collections they perfectly combine my fun, girly and punk view on fashion. I’m so glad to partner with Jennifer Behr to reimagine these iconic styles for the next generation.”
