Neiman Marcus Summer Camp

After two years of virtual events and limited capacity guest lists, brands have been rethinking how to best show off their latest collections, and for Dallas-based retailer, Neiman Marcus, that came in the form of a three-day “Summer Camp” for editors and influencers to fully experience the Summer 2022 campaign IRL. “We’re all ready to get outside, get dressed up, socialize with friends and family, and travel,” said Daz McColl, Chief Marketing Officer of Neiman Marcus.

The new Summer 2022 campaign (pictured below), is all about inspiring customers to connect with nature and having a “carefree summer of fun and fashion,” while showing off designs from Veronica Beard, Missoni, Zegna, and Jacquemus and many other brands.

The trip itself drew inspiration from fun summer camp experiences rich in childhood nostalgia with an elevated fashionable twist that one would expect from Neiman Marcus. “Campers,” i.e. editors and influencers, were transported via bus two hours north of the city to Inness, a resort-style hotel in Accord, New York, situated on 220 pastoral acres between the Catskill and Shawangunk mountain ranges, which functioned as #campneimans campsite.

Campers were greeted with refreshing welcome drinks, a DJ, and their camp counselors (made up of Neiman Marcus’ internal team), setting the mood for the festivities to come. Later, everyone changed into “camp chic” attire for dinner under the stars.

In the guest quarters, there was a plethora of products from Neiman Marcus’ Summer 2022 collections, including Veronica Beard denim jackets, Ermenegildo Zegna cashmere overshirts, hats from Gigi Burris Millinery, high-speed phone chargers from Native Union, and an assortment of beauty items from brands like Dr. Barbara Sturm, La Prairie, Augustinus Bader, and Sisley Paris, that came in handy throughout the stay. The kitchenette was stocked with various snacks from Tea Forté, Melville Candy, and Whittard of Chelsea.

Day two kicked off with a buffet-style breakfast in the resort’s farmhouse, followed by a conversation with Neiman Marcus VP and GBM of Beauty, Tatiana Birkelund, and Neiman Marcus Beauty Buyer, Kim D’Angelo, to run-down the luxury beauty products campers could try out during their stay.

Then, came the summer camp-inspired activities curated by brand partners, including a custom jewelry making class with Mignonne Gavigan founder and designer Maggie Smith, dip-dyeing class with Brooklyn-base dyers The Stoop using Neiman Marcus Private Label Cashmere sweaters, and candle-making class from the New York-based Lanterne Candle Lab, Juliska.

Campers took to the open meadows for some outdoorsy archery fun, dressed in activewear from The Upside and Blue Sky Inn, two of Neiman Marcus’ latest new brands. Abrima Erwiah, co-founder of Studio 189, hosted a delicious family-style meal for dinner. The CFDA/VOGUE fashion fund and CFDA Lexus Fashion Initiative for Sustainability Award winner gave a toast of appreciation and explained her importance in working and giving back to African artisanal communities specializing in various traditional craftsmanship techniques, including natural plant-based dye indigo, hand-batik, kente weaving.

The day concluded with a late-night campfire hosted by Missoni President and CEO Giacomo Missoni and his wife, Silvia Torrassa. Campers sipped on the night’s signature “S’mores-tini” while bundled up with wool knit throws and pillows from Missoni’s latest home collection as Giacomo spoke on the longstanding history between the family-run business and Neiman Marcus.

The last day of camp started with an early wake-up call to participate in yoga, guided hikes, or guided meditation in the dreamy landscape of rolling hills. There were also customized facials by Neiman Marcus expert esthetician Lindsay Stutts. Campers said their goodbyes, but of course, not before taking the camp tradition group shot. Then it was back on the bus to return to the Big Apple, another successful summer camping experience for the books!

If you want to experience a taste of summer camp, the retailer is bringing full-size archery and Jenga games, camp-inspired displays and 3D photo installations in the shape of camp postcards to select stores throughout the US. Neiman Marcus will also be hosting a series of camp-inspired restaurant specials and fireside chats with brand partners in stores.
