Italian luxury fashion house Missoni has appointed 40-year-old designer Filippo Grazioli as its new creative director. The first collection featuring Grazioli’s work for the legacy knitwear label will debut at the end of May, with the brand’s pre-collection for men’s and women’s. His first show will take place in September for the Spring/Summer 2023 season.

Born in the Italian region of Marche, and graduating from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, the Italian designer worked to refine his craft in Paris at brands like Maison Margiela and Hermès. Grazioli also worked under Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy and Burberry as collection’s director before his Missoni appointment.

Known for their luxe and colorful knitwear designs, the 69-year-old fashion house has garnered a reputation for its slinky silhouettes and bold, striped patterns — something Grazioli intends to build upon.

In a statement included in the official press release, Grazioli said, “I am grateful for the opportunity I have been given, and the possibility to shape my experience further in a new vision that maintains the joyfulness, freshness, sense of color, and positivity that are the core qualities of Missoni.”

Grazioli will be replacing Alberto Caliri as creative director; Caliri will now be overseeing Missoni Home and Missoni Sport.

CEO of Missoni, Livio Proli, said in a statement the brand chose Grazioli to “raise Missoni’s profile and image in the luxury market and further strengthen the modernization process already initiated.”
