Super Bowl 2021

We can’t talk about the 2021 Super Bowl without talking about Miley Cyrus. On Sunday, February 7, the 28-year-old singer brought an A-game performance à la the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ win over the Kansas City Chiefs. She was the headliner of the NFL’s first-ever TikTok Tailgate, held at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, ahead of the championship game. From the star’s custom Gucci to special appearances from Joan Jett and Billy Idol, her performance was certainly one worth reliving.

Leading up to the Tiktok Tailgate on Wednesday, February 3, the Hannah Montana alum gave Instagram followers a sneak peek of her Super Bowl pregame costume: a cheerleading crop top with “FTW” (for the win) written across the chest, sans pants. On game day, fans experienced the complete ensemble in action, plus several more football-inspired luxury pieces. Keep scrolling to relive the singer’s performances and outfits debuted on Super Bowl Sunday.

pre-performance

Ahead of her TikTok Tailgate performance, Cyrus dressed in a casual-cool, sporty ensemble featuring pieces from Gucci and Dior. She specifically donned “Look 14” from Gucci’s “Ouverture of Something that Never Ended” collection: a green and white cropped T-shirt reminiscent of a football jersey. She paired the top with Doraemon x Gucci ©Fujiko Pro-Light Eco-Washed Denim Shorts and knee-high vintage Dior boots.

For Cyrus’s TikTok Tailgate performance with rocker Joan Jett, the singer changed into a custom Gucci football jersey-inspired shirt, which she teamed with white sequin embroidered cropped pants and sky-high pumps. The two performed “Bad Reputation,” “Bad Karma,” and “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”

Rock legend Billy Idol made an appearance, too. The pair performed their Plastic Hearts collab “Night Crawling,” and a surprise rendition of Idol’s 1982 hit “White Wedding.” During this performance, fans finally got to experience the complete version of the cheerleading costume Cyrus teased in the days prior.

performing “wrecking ball”

Cyrus got choked up singing her 2013 hit. For many, the song is synonymous with nudity (see: the official music video). But during her pregame performance, the singer’s emotions were brought to the surface for reasons that many speculate have to do with her divorce from Liam Hemsworth. After composing herself, the Tennessee native addressed the crowd, admitting:

“I wear a lot of glitter and I wear a lot of armor, but I also wear my heart on my sleeve, and it gets broken a lot.”

Her final song of the evening was her 2009 hit, “The Climb.” OG Cyrus fans still have it memorized—and are no stranger to tearing up hearing it performed (guilty). “‘The Climb’ hits so much harder now,” one fan tweeted. Another wrote, “‘The Climb’ by Miley Cyrus still gives me goosebumps.”
