Glass hair may well have met its match, as the latest trend to take over TikTok promises unrivalled levels of shine. Dubbed ‘liquid hair’, the trend takes root (sorry) in the resurgence of Nineties and early Noughties beauty trends, which favor glossy locks over the muted, matte beachy waves we all wore in recent years.

You’ve likely seen the look all over the red carpet and social media, swishing about several famous faces, including Kim Kardashian, Megan Fox, Zendaya and Ciara. While it was once considered cool to appear as if you didn’t care about doing your hair, a sleek salon finish now seems to be preferable for that ‘rich girl’ polish.

That’s right, the ‘effortlessly undone’ look that was so popular over the last few seasons has officially been ousted for ludicrously shiny stands that gleam with health and wealth, as it looks like such shine is surely due to whole lot of expensive hair treatments.

At least, that’s the aesthetic – in reality, a number of celebrity hairstylists have revealed that the key to getting that coveted ‘liquid’ look is actually down to styling products. We should also clarify here that ‘liquid’ hair is entirely separate to the wet-look trend, as this high shine, silky look is actually achieved with dry oil.

For a recent outing to New York Fashion Week, renowned hairstylist (and Rihanna’s go-to) Ursula Stephen shared on social media that she used the TRESemmé Smooth Dry Oil Spray to give singer Ciara’s XXL ponytail “the perfect amount of shine without compromising the style” because “there’s a difference between shiny and greasy”.

Similarly, fellow hairstylist to the stars Jesus Guerrero – who looks after Kardashian, Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera and Kylie Jenner – used a cocktail of nourishing oils on Fox ahead of her turn as a brunette Barbie at the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Guerrero opted for OGX’s Extra Strength Argan Oil of Morocco Dry Oil Shine Mist and Frizz-Free + Keratin Smoothing Oil Miracle Gloss Spray to give Fox that enviable high gloss finish.

Consider this liquid hair trend a sign to start investing in the health of your tresses again (or at least faking it via a dry oil spray).
