Ciara certainly isn’t shy of a hair makeover, having rocked numerous looks since she first burst onto the music scene back in 2004 (yes, that was 15 years ago – feel old yet?). During her time in the spotlight, the star has embraced her natural texture, worn loose, beachy waves, she even chopped it all off into a blunt bob at one stage. But her latest look signals the return of a hair trend we’ve been missing in recent years – the 70s-style blow out.

Over the past decade, the volume we once so furiously back-combed into existence has slowly dimmed in favour of the ‘effortlessly undone’ aesthetic. But bold glamour hair is finally coming back, although admittedly for some stars – like the high priestess of high-key hair, JLo – it never really left.

Marked by elevated framework at the crown of the head, the XXL blow dry then cascades out into a thick mane of big barrel curls that surround the face. Ciara wore hers in waves that tapered out and away from the face à la 70s icon Farrah Fawcett.

“Farrah Fawcett C,” the Level Up singer captioned a shot of her new hair on Instagram, as an homage to the actress’ infamous flipped-out hairstyle. The retro style, as created on Ciara by hairstylist Kiyah Wright, hasn’t just been on the red carpet. Social media users, particularly those on TikTok, have been emulating a raft of old school hairstyles recently.

Whether it’s the Rachel Green rounded 90s blow-dry, the perky 60s-esque flip that Ariana Grande has been putting into her hair recently, or the shaggy layered cuts that best lend themselves to Fawcett’s signature look – it all proves that when it comes to beauty trends, time is indeed just a circle.
