Machine Gun Kelly took to Instagram on Valentine’s Day to share a gallery of images of girlfriend Megan Fox. In a public display of love similar to fellow celebrities Halle Berry and Blake Lively, Kelly’s post takes a slightly darker twist.
“I wear your blood around my neck”, the artist captioned his Instagram image series, and he isn’t joking. The second picture reveals a clear locket with what is believed to be a small smear of Fox’s blood on the glass.
Fox also posted a series of loved-up selfies and videos accompanied with a cryptic caption. The actress writes, “there goes my heart manifest outside of my body draped in the towering silhouette of a most unusually handsome boy / magical and haunted / kinetic and tortured / ethereal and dangerous / cosmic / lawless / eternal / creative genius / the journey will likely be perilous but there is no destination without him. happy valentine’s day rehab barbie.”
It’s not the first time a vial of blood has been worn by Hollywood’s elite as show of love. In 2000, Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie wore similar necklaces while they were married. Unsurprisingly, the vials were controversial.
Speaking to People in 2018 – 15 years after the couple’s split – Thornton believed the media took the accessories out of context.
“The necklaces were a very simple thing, ‘Hey let’s poke our fingers with a pen and smear a little blood on there and when we’re away from each other we’ll wear the necklace,’” Thornton said. “It was that easy. But by the time it came out in the press it sounded like we were wearing a bucket of blood around our necks.”
As for Fox and Kelly, the pair have been dating following Fox’s split from her husband of 10 years, Brian Austin Green. The former couple confirmed the split last May before Fox filed for divorce in November. They share three children, Noah, 8, Bodhi, 6, and Journey, 4.
