On the eve of the first Monday in May, Kim Kardashian embraced the theme of the 2023 Met Gala by decking herself out in Chanel. Kardashian arrived at a hotel in New York City with her eldest daughter North West, niece Penelope Disick and Scott Disick, and made her look one you can’t miss.
The SKIMS mogul wore a tight charcoal gray Chanel crop top with the interlocking “C” logo at the neckline and high-waisted black leather pantaboots. The reality television star teamed her look with black shield sunglasses from the Parisian fashion house embellished with a gold chain, black leather Chanel driver gloves and carried a large rectangular quilted patent leather Chanel trunk. Kardashian wore her hair in a low ponytail and kept her makeup minimal for the trip.
As stylish as her mom, North wore a Chanel black leather button-up top with oversized black ripped jeans, lug soled black boots, a gold chain Chanel belt, Chanel sunglasses and carried her own quilted patent leather square-shaped top-handle handbag.
Celebrities have been arriving to the Big Apple to get ready for the annual fundraiser and started partying throughout the weekend. Many attended Anna Wintour’s Pre-Met Gala dinner party, including Dua Lipa, Lizzo and Penélope Cruz.
This year, the upcoming Met Gala exhibition is entitled “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” and the theme celebrates the life and work of the revolutionary couturier, who helmed Fendi since 1965 and Chanel since 1983 until his passing in 2019.
Kardashian posted a video of her hotel room covered in white flower petals and filled with candles on Instagram Stories on Sunday night. There were silver blow-up letter balloons that said “Karl Lagerfeld Met Gala” and massage beds. Kardashian wrote on the post, “How sweet is North for surprising me tonight with this for us to relax before the Met.”
Last week, Kardashian shared photos from a visit to Lagerfeld’s office in Paris, posting selfies with the designer’s cat, Choupette. In one image, the skincare mogul browsed though photos and sketches of garments hanging on a wall — perhaps a hint to what she’ll wear on Monday.
“Had a date with @choupetteofficiel in Paris,” she wrote. “We then spent some time at @karllagerfeld’s office to get a little inspiration for the Met.”
Not the only A-lister to drench themselves in Chanel ahead of fashion’s biggest night, Rihanna stepped out in a vintage Chanel ensemble over the weekend too.
The Grammy Award winner highlighted her passion for fashion by prancing around New York in a cropped black-and-white fur shawl from Lagerfeld’s seminal Fall/Winter 1994 collection. Never the one to be spotted without an accessory, Rihanna also paired her vintage ensemble with a pair of camp interlocking “C” white sunglasses.
Rihanna completed her look in a feathered low-back mini dress, courtesy of Coperni and a pair of strappy Amina Muaddi heels. As the style star wrote herself, “not even Monday,” in an Instagram post, shared with her 149 million followers.
As the two heavy-weights of the Met Gala, we can’t wait to see what Kardashian and Rihanna have in store for tonight’s red carpet.
