In the fall of 2020, Kim Kardashian brought back the beloved Y2K velour tracksuit with a little help from her bestie Paris Hilton (you may remember the photoshoot they made together). Now, the SKIMS founder is going back into the tracksuit vault and giving new life to the sporty ’90s windbreaker design.
During her stay in New York this week, the 41-year-old mother of four made her way out of the Ritz Carlton hotel in a black, white, and navy nylon tracksuit from Balenciaga’s menswear collection. She paired the athleisure look with casual black trainers and the iconic bug-eyed sunglasses, also from the luxury fashion maison.
Kardashian was in the city along with her two daughters, North West, 9, and Chicago West, 4, and kept stepping out in versatile, mom-on-the-go pieces, like cargo pants which she sported on Tuesday. Her luxe tracksuit look comes a week after she made an unexpected (but oh-so-fitting) appearance on the runway at Demna’s Fall 2022 Balenciaga Haute Couture show. Much like Kardashian, creative director Demna has an affinity for the ’90s tracksuit — often displaying iterations of the casual yet functional style in his runway collections.
The designer also recently partnered with Adidas on a collaboration that debuted during his Resort 2023 show that took place on the New York Stock Exchange’s trading floor. The collection featured various tracksuits featuring the sportswear brand’s signature triple-stripe motif. With the collection selling out almost immediately, it seems Kardashian and Demna aren’t the only ones loving the sporty look right now.
