Kim Kardashian‘s polarizing turn on this year’s Met Gala red carpet has drawn ample speculation – how could the queen of contouring front up to fashion’s night of nights without her signature sculpted look? But now the star has revealed that even though her face was completely covered by her Balenciaga ensemble, she was in fact wearing a full face of makeup.

Because of course she was. It’s Kim Kardashian.

Kardashian’s long-time makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic shared a series of snaps of his client’s pre-event prep, which included a photo of the KKW Beauty founder’s final look. Kardashian’s Met Gala face featured her trademark bronze smokey eye, groomed brows, and chiselled cheekbones with a nude lip.

Dedivanovic revealed that he prepped the skin with La Mer, using the brand’s iconic Crème de la Mer, with The Treatment Lotion, The Concentrate, The Eye Concentrate and The Regenerating Serum. He then used his own Makeup By Mario Master Mattes® Eyeshadow Palette to create Kardashian’s smouldering bronze eye look.

While many are wondering why Kardashian would bother sitting through hours of makeup only to cover her entire face, there are many reasons why she might have chosen to do so. Firstly, it’s parochial to think that putting on makeup is always about appealing to others – for many, it’s an enjoyable aspect of the getting-ready ritual.

Kardashian has also attended Paris Fashion Week sans-glam before, so it’s not like she feels uncomfortable in public without it. Maybe she just, you know, likes it. Getting pre-glammed also surely shaved down her touch-up time after the event, as Kardashian was seen heading to the after party, makeup on and mask off.

Whatever her reasoning, we’re here for it.
