Kim Kardashian has finally turned up to the Met Gala…at least we think it’s Kim. Hard to say because she – if it is she – has arrived in a head-to-toe black Balenciaga body suit including full face covering.
Kardashian was really giving hints that she was going full BDSM-mask at today’s event when she turned up in New York earlier this week wearing a leather version of the same outfit.
The reigning queen of the Met Gala (love her or hate her, Kimberly Noel Kardashian is without a doubt one of the most reliable red carpet fuss-makers) turned heads as she arrived wearing a custom Balenciaga outfit designed by Demna Gvasalia, current creative director of Balenciaga. And, it should be said, the same Demna Gvasalia who has been collaborating with Kanye West through his roller-coaster of a ride Donda album viewing parties.
On that note, the entire ensemble looks exactly like it’s been taken off the set of one of West’s homage to himself events. The rapper was wearing something similar to the Balenciaga Couture show earlier this year and has been seen frequently wearing a full face covering in public.
Is this meant to be a nod to her former husband’s album? Who can say. But also, exactly how this relates back to the theme of this year’s Met Gala – “American Independence” – is just equally unclear as her vision must be in that facial covering.
Also, let’s not forget that we are still in a pandemic. This could purely be a practical, avant garde solution to wearing a surgical mask, which we can all admit is not very chic.
Kardashian sister, Kylie Jenner, has been confirmed as a no-show to the event despite having been in town for the gamut of shows at New York Fashion Week.
How Kardashian plans on drinking, eating or even really getting around once the lights are dimmed remains to be seen. But word is Demna Gvasalia himself is on the ground so hopefully he can be help find her way around the tables.
Also, I could be showing my age here but she reminds me of the demon dancer out of that early Tom Cruise movie Legend.
