Julia Garner might’ve been nominated for her role in Netflix’s Ozark, but we think her makeup and hair efforts are well worthy of recognition too. The 27-year-old, who plays Ruth Langmore, earned nods for her performance in the hit series at both the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards and although she didn’t win, we’d like to resubmit Garner – this time for Most Outstanding Contribution To Red Carpet Beauty.

The Emmy winner turned to makeup maestro Hung Vanngo to create a vibrant look that complimented her joyful Christopher John Rogers dress. The result? Luminous skin and softly filled-in arches, with smoky, ocean-inspired eyeshadow and a punchy pout with a glossy finish.

Blue shades were popular among this year’s Critics Choice Awards attendees, with Yara Shahidi opting for muted steely-hued eyeliner. But Vanngo’s take was undeniably boisterous, sitting closer in shade to the inky depths of the ocean than the sky above it. The decision to opt for a contrasting punchy lip demonstrates Vanngo’s ability to transcend traditional makeup rules in a way that seems entirely wearable.

Of course, he also chose to follow what has essentially become his signature – a gradient, almost brow-skimming cat-eye, softened by infinity-style edges. It’s a classic look that elongates the eye tenfold, but the seasoned makeup pro kept it feeling modern with painterly hues.

The look was imagined solely using Chanel skin and makeup products, with Vanngo breaking it all down on his Instagram. The star attractions when it came to Garner’s complexion included the Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation Hydration and Longwear for a radiant base, Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream for warmth, plus Rouge Coco Bloom in Dream to build a lustrous pout.

For the eyes, Vanngo enlisted Chanel’s Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Fervent Blue, paired with Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow in Quiet Revolution and a hefty coating of Le Volume De Chanel in Noir on the lashes.

Coupled with playful curls as coiffed by hairstylist Bobby Eliot, Garner was an irrefutable winner in our books.
