The Critics Choice Awards are perhaps one of the less exciting events on the awards show calendar, but this year we were pleased to find that the virtual red carpet delivered in spades. A number of our favourite stars, including Anya Taylor-Joy, Zendaya and Emma Corrin, really turned it out behind the safety of their screens, donning a whole host of memorable outfits for the socially-distanced occasion. But in the beauty category? Our undisputed winner is Yara Shahidi.

The Grown-ish star fronted the er, iPhone cameras in a youthful Dior ensemble that consisted of an embroidered top, tulle skirt with satin appliqué and gold gauze shirt. But ultimately, it was the soft, steely-blue eyeliner and towering top knot for us.

The makeup, conceived and executed by Emily Chen, proved that colour can be both fun and sophisticated in equal measure. As Chen revealed on her Instagram, she exclusively used Dior makeup products to create the dreamy look, including the brand’s Diorskin Forever Skin Glow Fluid Foundation ($93), Dior Backstage Contour Palette ($76), and Diorskin Forever Skin Correct Concealer ($65).

As the main event, the eyes were the result of the Diorshow 24H* Stylo Waterproof Eyeliner in Matte Blue ($45) with soft shadow shades from the Diorshow 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette in 279 Denim ($107).

Shahidi’s hairstylist Nikki Nelms tied the entire look together – literally – by threading thick blue material through The Sun Is Also a Star actor’s top knot. “For Yara’s hair, we took the lead from her amazing, whimsical dress. It is a stylish, fun, and airy topknot that stands out, even on Zoom,” Nelms explained in a statement.

She reached for Maui Moisture’s Curl Quench + Coconut Oil Curl Smoothie ($13) with Sebastian Professional Shaper Fierce Finishing Spray ($34.95) to keep the look sleek with all flyaways at bay.

C’est magnifique!
