Jil Sander has always been synonymous with minimalism and converting the traditional work uniform into one that is cool and chic. As we emerge from the work from home era and slowly reenter the office, anticipation for the Jil Sander Spring/Summer 2022 show saw to what the new workwear look would be in the vision of co-creative directors Luke and Lucie Meier.
Stepping into the post-pandemic world, the Milan-based fashion house takes modern trends and makes them quintessentially Jil Sander. Within the first couple of looks, models walked the runway in softened suiting that is more relaxed and comfortable compared to the typical structural look we’ve seen from previous collections. Woolly accents of mohair and textured coats add to the mix creating a cozy-chic aesthetic while staying true to the brand identity.
Not often does Jil Sander stray away from its signature palettes of brown, white, and beige for spring/summer seasons. However, pops of colors in lavender, green, and blue was an unexpected yet exciting sight to see subtly introduced into the range in the form of exaggerated neck scarfs and blazers. Meanwhile, the debut of animal print is what really caught our attention. Look 18, a relatively simple silhouette trench coat, stood out among the 43 piece collection thanks to a fascinating tiger print with black tassels — a completely 180 from what we typically see.
The focus on accessories in the collection seemed purposely targeted on the neck and ears — perhaps a nod to zoom culture? Statement-making drop earrings and strong geometric necklaces in bold hues naturally drew attention to the upper half of the body. The duality and versatility of the lineup make a case for the return to the office and just how to dress for it.
