For Jennifer Lopez, love is still in the air. After tying the knot to Ben Affleck over the summer and starring in the wedding-themed rom-com Marry Me in February of this year, Lopez is still in full-on bridal mode thanks to her new film, Shotgun Wedding.

You may remember spotting the paparazzi photos as the star filmed the upcoming action-comedy alongside her co-stars, Josh Duhamel, Lenny Kravitz, and the hysterical Jennifer Coolidge in the Dominican Republic. Finally, the full trailer just dropped and to no one’s surprise, Coolidge’s one-liners are already stealing the show.

The Prime Video film, directed by Pitch Perfect’s Jason Moore, follows the engaged couple Darcy (Lopez) and Tom (Duhamel) as they prepare for their impending destination wedding. The trailer opens with Tom tweaking the seating chart and completing their DIY twinkle light-wrapped pineapple center pieces. Darcy is dealing with her kooky future mother-in-law (Coolidge) and getting her dream wedding dress ready.

Things go awry when Darcy’s ex (Kravitz) makes a not-so-subtle surprise appearance by way of helicopter during the rehearsal dinner, then things really go haywire when guests are taken hostage by armed “pirates.”  Tom and Darcy attempt to escape their wedding party’s captures, and as one might assume, hysterical action-packed and fun-filled chaos ensues. “Not once did I wonder if I’d be walking handcuffed through the jungle with a live grenade,” quips Tom in the trailer.

Much like Lopez’s real life wedding ceremony, her Shotgun Wedding character adorns multiple wedding gowns throughout the film — 28 to be exact! Costume designer Mitchell Travers tapped the bridal prowess of Galia Lahav to create Darcy’s custom wedding gown — but while filming such action-packed scenes, the designer had to create 28 versions of the dress.

“As the story devolves from a picture-perfect destination wedding into a hilariously chaotic adventure, so does Darcy’s gorgeous wedding gown,” read a statement from the brand. “As a result, Galia Lahav meticulously constructed and created 28 dresses in just one month using special techniques and fabrics so the gown could be modified, ripped, and transformed into a uniform suitable for a glam action hero.”

Shotgun Wedding will be released on Prime Video on January 27, 2023.
