According to Karl Lagerfeld, “sweatpants are a sign of defeat.” The famed designer famously wrote in his 2013 book The World According to Karl, “You lost control of your life, so you bought some sweatpants.” Now, supermodel Irina Shayk is here to call that statement into question.

After attending the 2023 Met Gala commemorating Lagerfeld’s impressive body of work, Shayk stepped out in a casual chic look to hit the afterparty circuit. She slipped into something a little more comfortable than her red carpet dress in a plain white tank top with gray sweatpants. She also carried along a maroon puffy bomber jacket with an orange lining.

Adding some glam to her relaxed style moment, Shayk kept wearing her custom Ana Khouri 65 carat diamond choker that she had on on the red carpet, along with her dazzling ear cuffs. The model slipped into a pair of glittering high-heeled lace-up Timberland boots from the brand’s collaboration with Jimmy Choo.

Revamping the model-off-duty look, Shayk also kept her red carpet glam intact. The Russian beauty maintained a luminescent complexion with rose pink eyeshadow and a matching mauve pink lip and kept her brunette tresses styled in glossy waves.

Earlier in the evening, Shayk wore an archival ivory silk Yohji Yamamoto gown from the designer’s Spring/Summer 1998 collection, emblazoned with floral appliqué along the neckline as she arrived to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The look undoubtably paid homage to Chanel‘s signature Camellia flower. “I was always a big admirer of mister Yohji and his talent,” the model wrote on Instagram.

The annual fundraiser celebrated the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” and the dress code was aptly described as “in honor of Karl.”
