There are a few celebrities that shut down the Met Gala carpet whenever they attend. Blake Lively. Kim Kardashian. Rihanna. And of course, supermodel extraordinaire, Gisele Bündchen. The legend arrived to the 2023 Met Gala in a feathery white vintage Chanel look and stopped traffic with her poses.
Bündchen wore a curve-hugging column gown featuring white vertical stripes and a sheer neckline, which she teamed with a feathery cape with long train, statement earrings and her signature beachy side-swept waves. “I wore this dress I think 2006 or 2007 in an editorial with [Karl Lagerfeld],” the model said on the red carpet.
She perfectly paid homage to the star of the night, the late great designer Karl Lagerfeld. The exhibit titled, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” honors the life and work of Lagerfeld and the official dress code for guests at the 2023 Met Gala is “in honor of Karl.”
When asked what her favorite memory with Lagerfeld was, Bündchen said it was hard to chose just one. “I love the memories with him. He was a gentleman and always so kind,” she said. “He was a lovely man.”
She did recall a fun moment shooting a Chanel N°5 fragrance campaign with the designer in the streets of Paris — while barefoot. “That was pretty funny,” Bündchen said.
The supermodel typically walks the carpet with Tom Brady. Late last year, the two announced they were going their separate ways after 13 years of marriage. There’s been a lot of talk about how they’re both doing (and potentially dating), but for Bündchen, she’s taken the moment to get back into modeling. She’s been seen on set, landing new magazine covers and fronting huge campaigns, including the Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama collaboration and a new Vivara campaign.
She’s been spending at her Costa Rica compound (she also splits her time between Miami, where Brady is based). “I don’t want to be limited,” Bündchen told Vanity Fair recently. “I want to spread my wings and fly.”
