Attention, attention: Blake Lively will not be attending the 2023 Met Gala on the first Monday of May. We know, it’s a travesty! The Simple Favor actress has been a longstanding staple of the annual ball since first attending in 2008 and we can’t imagine the Karl Lagerfeld theme without her interpretation.
On Thursday evening, Lively attended Tiffany & Co.’s grand reopening of its newly renovated New York City flagship location on 57th Street and Fifth Avenue, where she told reporters she won’t walk the red carpet on the famous Met staircase. Instead she said, “I will be watching.”
After being praised for her 2022 Versace gown, she said, “Thank you, that’s very sweet. I’ll be wearing that on my couch on Monday.”
This week Lively has been out and about, making us even more excited to see what she had up her sleeve for the annual gala. First she attended the 2023 Barnard College Annual Gala in New York City where she gave herself a well-deserved pat on the back for leaving the house (relatable) for her first red carpet outing after welcoming her fourth child with husband Ryan Reynolds in February. “I’m just so proud I left the house,” she joked on Instagram. Then, she wowed in a brown Brandon Maxwell plunging shirtdress at Tiffany & Co.
We’ll miss you on Monday Blake, but in honor of her epic looks through the years, we’re looking back at some of Lively’s best Met Gala outfits.
2022: Blake Lively in Versace
The 2022 Met Gala co-chair arrived to the red carpet embodying the dress code, “Gilded Glamour” and paying homage to the theme of the exhibit, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” Opting for a heavily embellished strapless custom Atelier Versace gown, the gold bow bustle around her waist unwrapped to reveal an oxidized green train, which was an homage to the Statue of Liberty which turns colors when it oxidizes.
2018: Blake Lively in Versace
Making a grandiose style-statement in Versace, Blake Lively was a regal vision at the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” 2018 Met Gala.
2017: Blake Lively in Versace
Lively adorned a figure-hugging gold chain-linked gown by Versace, with an ombré blue feathered hem, with a sleek high ponytail for the “Rei Kawakubo/ Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between”exhibition in 2017.
2016: Blake Lively in Burberry
Lively wore a petal pink strapless chiffon caped gown with red floral embellishments designed by Christopher Kane during his tenure at British fashion house Burberry for the “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” exhibit in 2016.
2014: Blake Lively in Gucci
For their first Met Gala as couple, Lively and Reynolds walked the 2014 red carpet to celebrate the “Charles James: Beyond Fashion” exhibit, with Reynolds in a velvet black tuxedo and Lively in a champagne-colored bedazzled Gucci gown.
2011: Blake Lively in Chanel
Lively attended the 2011 Met Gala celebrating the “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” exhibit with designer Karl Lagerfeld, wearing a beige draped asymmetrical sequin-embellished dress from Chanel.
