Just under three months ago, British fashion designer Kim Jones made his Fendi debut during the Spring 2021 Haute Couture season with a 19-look lineup that explored the notions of fluid androgyny and exquisite romance. Now, in a welcome surprise, his first offerings for the Roman house are arriving in stores—but the pieces are not what the style set saw on the star-studded runway, or, at least, not exactly. Rather, Jones translated the couture collection’s sensibility, which was inspired by the Bloomsbury set and the Virginia Woolf novel Orlando, into a capsule of ready-to-wear numbers.

Marrying the masculine and the feminine, the monochromatic lineup includes cady and wool silk tailoring and crisp cotton shirting alongside draped satin dresses and gowns. Fanciful flourishes come in the form of ballerina slippers that have been embossed with Karligraphy beaded monograms (a nod to the late Fendi creative director Karl Lagerfeld) and baroque pearl jewelry frozen in resin and embossed with rhinestones. (Knee-high satin boots, meanwhile, offer a play on the couture collection’s footwear of choice). What’s more? A small batch of the label’s iconic Baguette and Peekaboo bags now come trimmed in pearls or rendered in prints that riff off of the Bloomsbury Group’s Sussex home of Charleston House.

The very strictly limited-run collection, which campaign photographer Brett Lloyd shot on Bella Hadid and Lila Grace Moss, will hit just nine Fendi boutiques worldwide (Miami District Design, Beverly Hills Rodeo, London, Paris, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing) next Thursday, April 15th, and will be available for only two weeks. Should you be lucky enough to get your hands on one of the timelessly elegant collector’s items, expect your order to arrive in special packaging to boot. In other words, run don’t walk.
