While Euphoria characters Lexi and Cassie Howard haven’t exactly left off on the best note, actresses Maude Apatow and Sydney Sweeny’s bond is as tight knit as ever. In a new joint interview included in People’s Beautiful Issue, the two Euphoria stars divulge what it’s like to work with one another — and why the two of them could not stop laughing amid season two’s high stakes finale episode.
While filming the chaotic brawl that took place at the end of the season amid Lexi’s play depicting the emotional intricacies of her everyday life, Apatow and Sweeney were busy laughing it up between takes. Although Sweeney’s character Cassie was putting on a show of her own, interrupting the production to verbally berate Lexi and physically attack the play’s actors, Sweeney and Apatow were busy behind-the-scenes cracking up while they looked back on themselves presenting at the 2019 Creative Emmys. “We completely froze,” recalled Sweeney. “It made us start crying laughing,” she said.
“There were tears streaming down my face,” Apatow added. “I don’t think I’ve ever laughed that hard in my life.”
Having met on the Euphoria set over four years ago, the pair has been inseparable ever since. While on-screen, the two share a complicated and problematic sister dynamic, their IRL relationship could not be more different. Always hanging out in each other’s trailers, the two can typically be found reenacting the dances on TikTok, scrolling through memes and hanging out in their pajamas.
“She’s the sister I always wished I had,” said Sweeney of her costar. Singing each other’s praises, Apatow told the publication that Sweeney is “the most on top of it, hardworking, incredible person to work with,” while Sweeney said Apatow is “one of the kindest actresses” she’s ever starred alongside.
While the Howard sisters certainly have quite a bit to work out, we can’t wait to see what Sweeney and Apatow have up their sleeves next.
