Dua Lipa is a certified hair chameleon, having switched up her natural raven locks with various bold color choices over the last few years. There was the platinum blonde moment she unveiled at this year’s Grammy Awards, or the bright red and black two-tone hue she sported. She even experimented with DIY peachy-pink color during lockdown.

But as the star revealed on her Instagram, she recently adopted a fuchsia hair color. While we’ve seen Lipa in a pastel peach hue before, this color was the first time she’s worn such a bold neon shade. The We’re Good singer’s longtime hairstylist Chris Appleton shared some snaps of Lipa in the hot pink color to his Instagram, alongside the caption “pink make the boys wink.”

The color taps into the current “Barbiecore” trend, which has seen everyone reaching anything and everything hot pink. Given we’ve seen Lipa out and about since the campaign was shot, her look is likely courtesy of a high quality wig — but we’re ready to bet that this striking look will set off a string of Lipa-esque hot pink tresses.

If you’re keen to dabble in a neon hair color, there are a few things to note first. Firstly, consider your current hair color – if you’re darker, you’ll need to bleach your hair before you can apply such a vibrant dye to ensure that it shows up. This is relatively simple if you’re already blonde, but be warned that anything on the darker end of the shade spectrum will require hours in the chair.

The next thing to think about is the upkeep and the after-care. Maintaining such a bright shade will require a commitment to touch-ups in the salon every few weeks to avoid fading, and you’ll also need to be diligent with your color-saving haircare at home. If your hair already isn’t in the best condition, subjecting your strands to such stress might not be the best idea.

If after all that, your urge to go neon pink still checks out, then go ahead! Just be sure to invest in a quality bond-repair treatment to keep your hair strong (trust me).
