Now, we all know that low rise pants and skirts have a polarizing nature to them. Ever since the rise of high-waisted jeans that have dominated a good portion of 2010’s style, we tend to look back at the low-rise trend of the early 2000’s with a bit of caution. Regardless of how you feel about it, Bella Hadid rocked the look while out and about in New York City yesterday, embracing the denim domination of the early aughts.
The skirt in question was a denim skirt that fell to about mid-calf, another aspect reminiscent of early 2000’s fashion. The skirt featured what looks like burlap patchwork details, with seam lines around the hips and down the center of the piece. The hemline featured the same burlap-beige material seen up above, but was frayed. Around the waistline, tassels tied in knots, of dark brown and beige, fell to the side, giving some movement and dimension to the overall look.
Hadid paired this low-rise skirt moment with a low-cut, beige tank top that showed off the model’s hips and midriff. What was most interesting and unusual about this outfit is how well the boots worked with it. Black and rubber, and just about calf-height, the boots were a jarring contrast in comparison to the neutrality of the rest of the outfit. This could be in part due to the historic flooding and rain that hit New York yesterday, but all together, it worked.
The model carried with her a smaller, orange piece of arm candy in the form of a purse, which fit the blue and beige color palette just right. And the icing on the cake? A pair of gold-rimmed sunglasses and an array of gold and brown jewelry around her neck and plastic beaded bracelets. The accessories, more often than not, can make or break a simplistic outfit such as this.
