Every Can’t Miss Style Moment from the 2022 BAFTA Awards
Bringing the glamor in excess, this year’s BAFTA Awards saw A-listers sport custom creations and couture confections at London’s Royal Albert Hall
Opulence is one detail that remained true with every celebrity ensemble at Sunday’s BAFTA Awards. Held at London’s Royal Albert Hall, the EE British Academy Film Awards saw stars grace the red carpet in luxe velvets, voluminous ruffles and sculptural silhouettes. With best actress-nominee Lady Gaga’s rich emerald crushed velvet custom Ralph Lauren mermaid gown taking over 150 hours to create, best supporting actress winner Ariana DeBose’s custom canary chiffon Oscar de la Renta draped gown took clear notes from her costume in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story.
With Daniel Kaluuya, Riz Ahmed and Sebastian Stan spinning the notion of traditional suiting on its head, Benedict Cumberbatch and Troy Kotsur took the classic black velvet tux to the next level.
While some stars opted for darker, more somber hues, many have attributed the trend as a respectful homage to the struggle within Ukraine, with Naomi Campbell, Caitriona Balfe, Daisy Ridley, Ellie Bamber, Millie Bobby Brown, Adwoa Aboah, and Lashana Lynch all looking demure in black.
