While watching HBO Max’s new series And Just Like That, it’s easy to see that Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) are a little bit older — and maybe wiser.

The ladies are in a new stage of life — so much so, Miranda decides to sport her natural hair color, though it may not be red anymore.

“She wanted to embrace her gray … to say, ‘This is who I am. Deal with it; it makes me no less than a woman,” the show’s hair department head, Nakoya Yancey, told Page Six Style. “I love the way [showrunner Michael Patrick King] wanted to spotlight that because we all get older. [These characters] aren’t in their 30s anymore! You can’t help but embrace it — it’s there, it’s obvious.”

Despite some negative comments about the character’s looks, Yancey believes that it’s important to show what women are going through on a daily basis.

“I feel like those people are unrealistic. Everybody ages,” she said. “You’re gonna [go] gray; that’s just the reality of it.”

In the series, Miranda said Carrie is 55 years old, and according to internet sleuths, Charlotte and Miranda are around 54 and 56 years old, respectively.

“I like that we’re not trying to youthify the show,” Nixon stated. “We’re not including, like, a 21-year-old niece.”

King also believes it’s important to be confident in who you are — no matter how you look.

“When we announced And Just Like That, there were a lot of positive reactions, but one b**chy response online was people sharing pictures of the Golden Girls,” he recalled. “And I was like, ‘Wow, so it’s either you’re 35, or you’re retired and living in Florida. There’s a missing chapter here.'”

Parker also hopes that the double standard can disappear one day.

“Everyone has something to say: ‘She has too many wrinkles, she doesn’t have enough wrinkles.’ It almost feels as if people don’t want us to be perfectly OK with where we are, as if they almost enjoy us being pained by who we are today, whether we choose to age naturally and not look perfect, or whether you do something if that makes you feel better,” the mom-of-three shared. “I know what I look like. I have no choice. What am I going to do about it? Stop aging? Disappear?”
