George Clooney may have been celebrated at the 2022 Kennedy Center Honors, but his wife, Amal sartorially stole the show. The Hollywood couple stepped out at the White House for the 45th annual awards ceremony on Sunday evening, where George was honored for his contributions to American culture alongside other iconic figures including U2 band members Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr, as well as singers Gladys Knights, Amy Grant, and composer Tania León.
The pair dressed to the nines for the occasion, with George looking dapper in a timeless black tuxedo under his rainbow medal, and Amal opting for a silver off-the-shoulder crystal-encrusted Valentino gown from creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2022 “The Beginning” collection.
It wasn’t the only show-stopping ensemble Amal chose for the milestone occasion. For the pre-dinner ahead of the Kennedy Center Honors, the human rights attorney donned a high-glam fire engine red off-the-shoulder Valentino gown with a cascading cape from the Italian fashion house’s Couture Spring 2022 collection. When her cape became tangled, Amal’s doting husband came to the rescue to save her from a potential wardrobe malfunction.
Longtime pal and co-star Julia Roberts attended the ceremony wearing an homage to Clooney. The Ticket to Paradise actress wore a custom Moschino creation, courtesy of creative direction Jeremy Scott. With a tailored black blazer on top, Roberts’ skirt was scattered with printed framed images of Clooney, from his days on the hit television series ER, to old headshots and snapshots of the two friends together.
Another beloved Hollywood couple, Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher were in attendance, as well as singers Brandi Carlile and Sheryl Crow, actors Sean Penn, Matt Damon, and Ariana Debose, journalist Katie Couric, and makeup mogul Charlotte Tilbury.
