Scrolling on Instagram the other day, I paused on an ad – something completely out of character for someone who almost professionally avoids anything sponsored on social media. The reason my thumb stopped dead was because I’d spotted a perfect little black dress dancing its way across the screen and, having been on the hunt for cute Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve outfits for the past few weeks, I immediately needed to know more about it.
It turns out, as expected, my expensive taste can be sniffed out by even the Instagram algorithm. The perfect dress in question, complete with a festive feather-trim and an on-trend exaggerated collar, was created by British brand 16Arlington and comes in at a very cool $845. I’ve since discovered it also comes in white, which is just as – if not more – necessary.
Though I’d heard of 16Arlington – and seen it on the likes of Lady Gaga, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and, most recently, ultimate cool girl Emma Corrin, I hadn’t realized just how ridiculously cute its offering is. The brand was launched in 2018 in a London apartment by couple Marco Capaldo and Federica “Kikka” Cavenati and is named after the first studio they shared together.
As if reading my mind, a few days after I spotted the dream dress, I saw a headline about 16Arlington: the brand has released a range of ‘forever’ party dresses, a refined edit containing 14 of the brand’s most popular pieces, dubbed The Infinites, which will be available to purchase ongoing, no matter the collection or season.
“The Infinites really is the result of a design intention that’s been present for us for a long time. While our collections deals in a lot of frivolity — which we love! — there’s also a lot of precision to the way we think about design,” the design duo tells me over email. “With our woman at the forefront of what we do, it has afforded us a lot of confidence about who our customers are and what they want from us, we feel very close to the styles they return to again and again.“
The announcement of the capsule collection is not only a step in the right direction sustainability-wise for the growing brand, but it’s also made my bid to avoid dropping all my Christmas present money on one, very cute, LBD that much harder.
