A favorite among A-list celebrities and influencers alike, Balenciaga’s latest it-bag feels brand new while its historic roots remain omnipresent

A staple among the Kardashian krew, Kanye’s new muse Julia Fox, Tracee Ellis Ross, Hailey Bieber, and fictional character Carrie Bradshaw, Balenciaga’s Hourglass handbag sings a tune of sculptural modernity while drenched in significant fashion history. Simultaneously on trend and timeless, the perennially stylish accessory is known for its definitively curved silhouette. With ties linking back all the way to the fashion house’s founding father, the Spanish couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga. His legendary Basque waistcoats from the 1950s served as inspiration for the brand’s current creative director Demna. Amplifying and exaggerating one’s shape, the waistcoats’ clean lines cemented the house’s signature design DNA.
