COSTUME DESIGNER PATRICIA FIELD FAMOUSLY STYLED SATC’S CARRIE BRADSHAW IN AN ARTFUL MIX OF VINTAGE FINDS

They say what goes around comes around, and today, pre-loved fashion is not only an eco-friendly choice, but a trending one making waves in the region. “The demand and appreciation for good-quality second-hand items in Dubai is growing,” says Jen Sault, founder of Thrift for Good (TFG) – an online charity thrift store that raises funds for children’s projects via Dubai-based non-profit, Gulf for Good.

Established under lockdown, the thrift store is not only committed to zero waste, but powers change by reselling donated items. And this weekend (13-14 November), TFG opens shop at The Palm. With goodies arriving in sustainable packages and offseting its carbon emissions through TreeNation, TFG will offer a new, more personal way to shop.

“This is a great opportunity for us to make charity thrift accessible to a wider audience in Dubai, reduce waste and raise even more funds for children around the world in partnership with Gulf for Good,” continues Jen. During the opening, stylish shoppers can enjoy a fashion show, environmental upcycling, craft workshops, raffle prizes, and live music amongst others – between 4 and 8 pm.

Running a succesful online store, the new physical store will pair transparency with a face-to-face shopping experience.  In the rustic vintage space, you can scout quality high street and designer pieces for as little as Dhs10. “The People’s Store” – as the TFG team calls it, will also serve as a clothing donation drop-off point, which will supplement TFG’s weekly mobile collections. So, if you have clothes you’d like to donate, bring them with you!

More than a buzz, Thrift for Good pushes for change that benefits both the community and planet. “We are proud and delighted to have our sister social enterprise open its first retail location, which we have no doubt will raise a significant amount for children around the world,” says Anne Edmondson, Chairwoman at Gulf for Good, the organisation, which  has raised nearly US$4 million through more than 60 charity projects in 27 countries, helping more than 35,000 children.
