Namshi has become the first retailer in the region to join the Sustainable Apparel Coalition – the fashion world’s leading alliance for sustainable production. The Middle East’s largest fashion and beauty e-commerce platform has also announced new initiatives focused on sustainability and social responsibility, one being the replacement of its delivery fleet with hybrid cars in order to reduce planet-harming emissions.

Hadi Badri, Namshi Chairman, shared his thoughts about the partnership, “Our purpose at Namshi is to have a positive and meaningful impact on our communities. Our partnership with SAC will give us the tools to benchmark our performance on key sustainability measures and raise the bar on our operations for the benefit of our customers and our communities. We take our leadership role in Middle East fashion and beauty e-commerce seriously, and sincerely hope that our steps will inspire other retailers in the region to join us in embracing this important cause.”

Namshi will incorporate locally sourced, recycled materials into its boxes, reduce the use of excess packaging and is working to create a permanent home for sustainable brands so that eco-friendly customers can shop worry-free. It has already launched thirty sustainable brands including Adidas, Nike and Tommy Hilfiger, and it will continue to lead the charge – fitting, considering Namshi translates to ‘moving forward’.

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition develops the Higg Index to standardise value chains and sustainability measurements in order to assess environmental and social labour impacts while working towards transparency in the industry. “Having Namshi as part of the Coalition widens the scope of our impact within the industry and accelerates the change we’re making towards responsible industry actions,” said Sustainable Apparel Coalition’s Director Amina Razvi. Namshi joins 250 retailers including Aldo, Mango, Levi’s and Reformation.
