Today Deadline confirmed that Euphoria breakout star Sydney Sweeney and Fifty Shades of Grey lead Dakota Johnson will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the publication, the two talent will star in the upcoming Sony Pictures film, Madame Web. What is perhamps more exciting is that Johnson will serve as the first female superhero in Sony’s Marvel Universe (Black Widow’s Scarlett Johansson is tied to Disney).

For the uninitiated to the wider comic books, Madame Web (portrayed by Johnson) is an elderly woman with psychic sensory abilities who thrives off a spiderweb that operates as her life support. It is still not known what role Sweeney will take on. The film will be directed by S.J. Clarkson – best known for his work on Jessica Jones and Defenders – while he will be joined by co-writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.

Sweeney is enjoying huge success following the season two finale of Euphoria earlier this month. She is currently in the midst of filming National Anthem alongside Halsey and former co-star Eric Dane. At just 24, the actress has recently launched her own production company, Fifty-Fifty Films. First on the agenda is a television series dubbed, The Players Table.

It comes as no surprise that Sweeney has taken the world of filmmaking into her own hands. In February, the newly-engaged star discussed the double-standard of nudity within Hollywood in an interview.

“There are hour-long compilations of world-famous male actors with nude scenes who win Oscars and get praised for that work,” she said. “But the moment a woman does it, it degrades them. They’re not actresses. They just take off their tops so they can get a role.”

As for Johnson, she gave us a small peek into her notoriously private relationship with Chris Martin. “We’ve been together for quite a while, and we go out sometimes, but we both work so much that it’s nice to be at home and be cozy and private,” Johnson told Elle UK in an interview. “Most of the partying takes place inside my house.”

More to come.
