Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet shocked fans last week when they announced their divorce after 12 years of dating and four years of marriage. Unbeknown to us at the time but they had been split for several months. According to a source for E! Newsthe reason for the surprise breakup was due to “different priorities”.

The insider clarified, “Jason is very focused on his career and wants to work. He has found success and it’s driving him and is very fulfilling. Lisa wants to be in LA and is not interested in going on location for long periods of time with him.”

The Aquaman star “was moving in a different direction and it did not fit together with her lifestyle,” the source added. “They drifted apart and wanted different things.”

In a separate report from Peoplea source said they still care “deeply about each other”.

On January 13 the former couple shared the news via a joint statement on Momoa’s social media accounts. “We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring,” the joint statement read. “And so we share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage.”

Bonet seemingly referred to the breakup in a December 2021 interview where she discussed “uncertainty”. “Definitely learning how to be authentically me, learning to be new, and following this invitation from the universe to step into this river of uncertainty,” she told longtime friend Marisa Tomei for Interview Magazine

Momoa and Bonet started dating in 2005. They welcomed their first child, Lola, in July 2007 and their second, Nakoa-Wolf, in December 2008. The couple wed in October 2017. Bonet also shares daughter Zoë Kravitz, with ex-husband Lenny Kravitz.
