On January 13, Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet shared a joint statement to social media announcing they had split after 16 years together and four years of marriage. In a December interview, Bonet had inadvertently referenced the breakup when speaking with Interview Magazine. Well before we had any idea.

She was asked by her longtime friend Marisa Tomei what her current calling in life was. Bonet responded, “Definitely learning how to be authentically me, learning to be new, and following this invitation from the universe to step into this river of uncertainty.” While we thought she may have been talking about 2022, the comment seems more likely directed toward the split.

“We’ve eliminated all this extra noise, and now it’s time to grow our roots deeper into our own values,” she added.

The actress continued, “The revolution is definitely here and we’re all feeling the squeeze. If you aren’t, you’re in total denial, and the more you resist, the more you will suffer.” She used the same terminology in the announcement of the divorce – which was posted to Momoa’s Instagram page (Bonet doesn’t use social media) – noting the “squeeze” of “transformational times”.

“We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring,” the joint statement read. “And so we share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage.”

“We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy but so that as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty. The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other to be who we are learning to become…”

The statement continued, “Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life our children. Teaching our children what’s possible. Living the Prayer. May Love Prevail✨ J & L.”

The couple met in 2005. Momoa and Bonet welcomed their first child, Lola, in July 2007 and their second, Nakoa-Wolf, in December 2008. It wasn’t until October 2017 that the couple wed.
