Ahh, the MTV VMAs. The annual awards night is undoubtedly the rowdiest on the music industry calendar. It was the very ceremony that sparked that Taylor Swift-Kanye feud and the same event that saw Megan Fox in the cross-fire of a fistfight. Seriously. Nevertheless we look forward to it every year and 2022 is no exception.

The MTV VMAs will take place on Sunday August 28 with the red carpet set to commence from 6:30pm ET and the show from 8. For Australian viewers this will occur on Monday August 29 from 8:30am. The ceremony will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

As for the stars you can expect to see on the red carpet and (hopefully) on stage, Nicki Minaj, LL Cool J, and Jack Harlow will host. Harlow alongside Kendrick Lamar and Lil Nas X lead the nomination count with seven each while the likes of Doja Cat, Harry Styles, Lizzo and Taylor Swift are also nominated for awards.

This year marks the return of the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award after a two-year hiatus from the ceremony. The award is a special nod to an artist’s profound impact on music with this year’s award already announced for Minaj. She follows Missy Elliot who received the honour in 2019.

The roster of live performances is pretty extensive too. Highlights include the aforementioned Harlow – gosh he’ll be one busy guy – Lizzo, K-pop band Blackpink and Bad Bunny.
