Awards season may not officially begin until the new year, but the 2025 Governors Awards—sometimes referred to as the Honorary Oscars—offered a sparkling preview of what’s to come.
Held at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles, the 16th annual ceremony, which honours lifetime achievements and contributions to film, presented Academy Honorary Awards to Debbie Allen, Tom Cruise, and Wynn Thomas, while Dolly Parton received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Yet the night wasn’t only about accolades; it was also a clear reminder that Hollywood’s style stakes are already high.
With the industry’s most talked-about contenders in attendance, the red carpet doubled as a glimpse into the emerging mood of the 2026 awards season. Rising star Chase Infiniti arrived in a custom Louis Vuitton tiered tulle dress, joined by Emma Stone in an elegant off-the-shoulder black gown from the House. Jonathan Anderson’s Dior had a strong presence too, dressing Jennifer Lawrence in a goddess-like design, as well as Natalie Portman and Frankenstein star Mia Goth, who floated in a soft, princess-blue creation. Dakota Johnson, Tessa Thompson, Amanda Seyfried and Kate Hudson all opted for Valentino’s glamour, while Wicked co-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo offered a stylish encore, stepping out in archival Galliano for Dior and Sarah Burton’s Givenchy.
With plenty more stars rounding out the guest list, the Governors Awards delivered fashion with the confidence of an awards season already in full swing.
