It’s official. Music festivals that were once defined by glitter, face diamantés and feathers have sartorially regressed and after a two-year hiatus from many large scale events, festival-goers are looking for just one surprising thing: comfort. In April, Coachella returned to the desert with celebrities taking a pared-back approach to dressing.

It seems that normcore – the act of dressing in unremarkable clothing – has taken hold of Glastonbury Festival. The three-day music festival finally returned to Somerset in England at the weekend with British it-girls arriving in droves for the annual event. Among them was designer Alexa Chung who wore a mini shift dress, vintage jacket and knee-high boots on day one. Sienna Miller was also photographed on the first day in a strappy Mango dress and heeled boots.

Poppy Delevingne took a slightly more bohemian approach to her ensemble with patent gumboots and a fur-trimmed green velvet coat. Think circa 2012 style. Kate Moss tried her best to appear incognito at the event and was fleetingly captured at the barricade for Primal Scream’s set in a black singlet and ethereal kaftan.

Rita Ora channeled a more boho look too and on Instagram shared a rolodex of happy snaps wearing little lacy tops, velvet low-waisted flares and stacked crystal jewellery.

In images obtained by Daily MailLily James attempted to blend with the crowd in a Versace bucket hat, ripped baggy jeans and a leather jacket. Australian actress Cate Blanchett was also in attendance and opted for a cream boiler suit.

Iris Law was perhaps the most curated of the women choosing a pair of red cargo pants, a grey printed t-shirt and baby pink gumboots. Her ensemble was finished with wrap-around tinted sunglasses and tiny bows in her hair. Because only Iris can pull that off.
