A momentary pause for all fashion fans to rejoice over yet another collaboration between two fashion-forward luxury brands, Berlin-based MCM and renegade Japanese streetwear brand Bathing Ape or BAPE. The two brands have come together to commemorate the Year of the Dragon by debuting their first-ever Lunar New Year collection.

These two groundbreaking brands have produced groundbreaking innovations in material form, intertwining with music and pop culture for several decades now. Making this collaboration something that fans can revel in. MCM has been worn by the jet-hopping beau monde in the ’70s and ’80s and BAPE, which had immersed itself in the youthful ’90s nostalgia, all of which makes for this collaboration to a sweet union between the fine craftsmanship of MCM and the streetwear edge of BAPE.

The brands debuted their first-ever collab in 2019 as a means to revolutionise aesthetics and streetwear, and after having received a successful outcome, the duo has struck yet again with another fashionable collab. The dragon is a revered symbol of confidence, prosperity and good luck in Chinese culture, marking this collaboration as the celebrated means to welcome the auspicious new year.

The newest MCM X BAPE Lunar New Year exclusive drop features both the brand’s signature playful pattern charm with BAPE’s notorious shark motif with MCM’s signature Visetos. The legendary logo of BAPE STA takes centre stage and is gorgeously wrapped with a golden dragon design. Designed in black and cognac Visetos, the shark hoodie shows off the collaborative logo of the monogram as well as the shark motif over the hood’s exterior.

MCM’s most recognizable silhouettes, the belt bag, crossbody, backpack, the weekender and more are all adorned with the collaborative motif all around. Each item in the collection is rich in detail, featuring durable gunmetal hardware and eye-catching elements like oversized graphics, bold patterns, and daring animal patches.

Thomas Hui, the chief operating officer at BAPE took the moment to comment on this fashion collaboration, “We are excited to join forces again with MCM for a collaboration that merges the best of both worlds.
