The 2023 BAFTAs (British Academy Film and Television Awards) red carpet has been all about show stopping gowns and high couture, with celebrities opting for drama over demure as we head into the pointy end of awards season.

Everyone from Cate Blanchett to Florence Pugh was in attendance (as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) to celebrate the best of the silver and small screen for 2023. Below, find our favourite fashion from the 2023 BAFTAs red carpet.

It doesn’t get more dramatic than this iridescent Gucci gown that Jodie Turner-Smith chose for the BAFTAs. A contrast of feather and sequins, Turner-Smith teamed the gown with face crystals and metallic purple shadow.

Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett won big at the BAFTAs – Best Actress for her role in TÁR – and chose a low-key gothic dress by John Galliano for Maison Margiela. Featuring the structured detail that’s become very much a part of Cate Blanchett’s style evolution, observant fans will notice it’s actually a repeat wear – Blanchett wore the same piece to the 2015 Oscars, teaming it back then with a Tiffany & Co. statement necklace, and this time around with Louis Vuitton pearls. Blanchett was also wearing a blue ribbon, which is in support of #WithRefugees and is a symbol of solidarity with the refugees across the globe.

One of the best on ground at the 2023 BAFTAs was Florence Pugh, wearing Harris Reed’s first creation for Nina Ricci’s upcoming Paris Fashion Week show. Featuring a mermaid-esque fishtail cut and pleated structure around the bodice, Pugh’s team paired the gown with a 90s twist hairstyle that mimicked the fan effect of the piece.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Kate Middleton loves to repurpose the beautiful gowns she’s worn in the past, just like Cate Blanchett – and she chose to do just that at the BAFTAs with this Alexander McQueen gown. Worn in 2019, the Duchess of Cambridge revamped the look with black opera gloves and $31.50 Zara earrings.

Emma Mackey’s dress may have seemed very understated for the 2023 BAFTAs judging by its front, which was high-collared and slinky, but the back was where all the detail existed – a knee-high split that showed off platform velvet heels and a tie back that felt very 2000s-era Oscars red carpet (remember when everyone favoured open backed gowns?) which pulled everything together for the Sex Education actress, who won the Rising Star Award.

Ana de Armas

Channelling Marilyn Monroe in a heavy satin dress by Louis Vuitton, Blonde star Ana de Armas paired the gown with sapphire earrings by the fashion house, as well as matching pink sandals.

Dialling the drama up several notches was Anya Taylor-Joy, who chose the masters of jaw-dropping couture, Schiaparelli, for her 2023 BAFTAs fashion look. Wearing a structured velvet mini dress with a removable floor-length cape, the The Menu star was unmissable on the red carpet.

Sophie Turner

Also in Louis Vuitton was Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner, who chose this incredible bejewelled gown worn over high-waisted briefs and a black bra, giving modern naked dress on the BAFTAs red carpet.

Hoyeon Jung

Squid Game star Hoyeon Jung has been a stand out across the 2023 awards season on the red carpet, and continued her reign in this embellished Louis Vuitton gown by Nicolas Ghesquiere, which felt very reminiscent of Grace Kelly and Old Hollywood stars on Jung, who teamed it with a sleek low bun and elegant diamond necklace.

Eddie Redmayne

We love a man who puts a twist on the classic red carpet tuxedo, and Eddie Redmayne certainly delivered in Alexander McQueen with this custom-made jumpsuit.

Regé-Jean Page

Playing things a little more traditionally, but still bringing a modern twist was Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page, choosing a velvet blazer over a collarless shirt.

Carey Mulligan

Speaking of Bridgerton, Carey Mulligan took inspiration from period dramas with her Dior gown, which was simple and elegant. The actress was up for Best Supporting Actress for her role in She Said, and also revealed she’s expecting her third child.
