Modern psychology suggests the simplest way to ensure someone will be interested in you is to mirror their behaviour. In the case of Dakota Johnson and Sophie Turner’s surprising new friendship, it appears that the actresses aren’t subconsciously imitating one another’s gestures, but rather sartorially emulating each other’s style aesthetic.
Indeed, the pair have decided to cement their newfound friendship with an incidental twinning moment—a harmonious approach to dressing that some of the most established celebrity couples have failed to achieve. Though much is to be said about the power of this duo—their shared off-kilter humour is enough to warrant their own podcast—we must first address the matter at hand: their synergetic late-night looks.
Their unlikely outing came courtesy of the Saturday Night Live after-party in New York. (Arguably the hottest ticket in town at the moment). For the occasion, the stars both opted for slick, city-approved takes on winter partywear, sporting similar elongated black coats, black underlayers, leather boots and high-octane party bags. (Turner’s from Louis Vuitton and Johnson’s from Dries Van Noten, respectively).
Their similarities extended into their respective beauty choices, too. Both Turner and Johnson wore their long tresses out in straight, unfussy styles, opting for natural makeup save for a pop of colour on their lips.
It’s unclear how Turner and Johnson connected outside of the realm of Hollywood events, but one thing is: their shared cool-girl and unbothered personalities is a female friendship we can get behind. Is it too early to wish for the pair to spend the holidays together and get matching tattoos?
Turner has been expanding her social network following news of her divorce from Joe Jonas. The star is reportedly using Taylor Swift’s Tribeca penthouse as a base amidst the official separation proceedings.
Last week, she joined Swift, Gigi Hadid (who also previously dated Jonas for one hot minute in 2015), Selena Gomez and Cara Delevigne for a girls’ night sushi date.
Johnson is also very close with fellow ‘nepo baby’ Zoë Kravitz, who occasionally joins Swift on her celebrity-laden jaunts. Could this be Johnson’s soft launch into Swift’s girl squad? If her introduction into the fold is as subtle as this twin moment, she’ll be officiated into the group before Thanksgiving.
