Hollywood is the land of chameleons, with the city’s A-list inhabitants partial to a sartorial or beauty transformation depending on the specific ‘era’ they’re in.

However, some of today’s biggest beauty icons are those who have eschewed changing their signature look. Rather, quelling hair and makeup trends in favour of their trademark style.

Dakota Johnson is one such celebrity who has maintained her polished brunette tresses throughout the duration of her career.

Despite being a natural blonde, and boasting the balmy hue in her earlier roles including Luca Guadagnino’s A Bigger Splash, the 33-year-old has preserved her enviable French-girl locks and wispy bangs since her breakout in the Fifty Shades series.

Save for a brief auburn stint, courtesy of her performance as a witch in Guadagnino’s remake of Susperia, Johnson has rarely deviated from her layered fringe and luscious layers.

That was until now.

Continuing her track record of evolving her beauty looks for specific characters, Johnson has debuted a major hair transformation in the first look of her upcoming film Daddio.

In the photo, Johnson has kept her enviable curtain bangs but changed up the cut and colour for a Debbie Harry-approved blonde bob. Perhaps channelling the Blondie front woman’s Warhol era, or more recently Emma Stone’s beauty transformation,  Johnson’s chin-length bob features raw, messy edges.

Perfect for a chilling cab ride from JFK to Midtown with an intense cab driver (A.K.A Sean Penn).

It’s not confirmed if Johnson took the plunge by dying and chopping her hair for the role or simply took the wig route, but either way, the new chop is proof that Johnson is the beauty vacillator we deserve.
