Most of us know Rihanna as a fierce fashion icon, who doesn’t let anything stop her from pushing the envelope with fashion. Consistently clad in archive designer and pioneering styles (who could forget the watch anklet), her taste is truly unmatched in Hollywood. But it seems the Fenty founder doesn’t think she can match her partner A$AP Rocky‘s superior style game.
As part of her latest cover story with Interview magazine, the 36-year-old sat down with her former stylist, Mel Ottenberg, who currently serves as the magazine’s editor. When Ottenberg praised the rapper’s taste, Rihanna admitted that she tends to feel underdressed in comparison.
“Isn’t he the best? I be feeling bummy as sh*t next to this man,” she confessed. “I feel like, goddamn, I look like his assistant,” she told Ottenberg.
The singer continued that Rocky even reaches for designer looks when travelling.
“I’m getting on a plane. We should be in sweats. He wants to be in a full Bottega suit,” she continued. “I’m like, ‘Why you got to do that to me?’”
When asked if there was ever some healthy sartorial competition between the two, Rihanna explained that she’s come to prefer dressing her kids, RZA, one, and Riot, eight months, over herself since becoming a mother.
“Mums are lazy dressers in real life,” she joked, adding that her clothing choices need to suit her children.
“It’s more like I spend my time getting the kids dressed to death, and then I [have to consider] what’s the most comfortable outfit to wear around them, what’s not going to feel uncomfortable on their face or on their body or make me feel like I can’t hold them properly?”
