Taking this lesson one step further is Rihanna. The “Diamonds In The Sky” singer knows a thing or two about dripping yourself in precious stones, but doing so in surprisingly delightful and unconventional ways. Her latest ensemble is proof of this mode.
The 35-year-old musician and cosmetics founder stepped out for the Las Vegas Grand Prix in her signature avant-garde meets athleisure aesthetic. Wearing a pair of high-shine pantaboots, a zip-up hoodie and an oversized motorcycle jacket from Balenciaga, the star kept things cool by adorning her ankle with a USD$400,000 (AUD$612,000) watch from Jacob & Co. Indeed, giving new meaning to the phrase “race time”.
The functionality of the frosted ankle is hindered as the ability to tell the time can only occur when Rihanna’s sitting crossed-legged, but that isn’t the outfit’s point. Without saying anything at all, Rihanna has communicated her billionaire status by casually dragging approximately 155 emerald-cut diamonds around her ankle like it’s nothing.
Of course, it’s not the mother of two’s first foray into the realm of extreme diamond dressing. Earlier this year, the Barbados native strolled around Manhattan with a million-dollar pedicure featuring an eye-watering pear-shaped stone on the tip of her toe.
At Pharrell Williams’ debut collection as creative director of Louis Vuitton menswear, Rihanna also opted for an unconventional display of horology by wearing an opulent USD$600,000 (AUD$917,000) watch as a choker.
